Welcome to GLIDES!

GLIDES, the Global Learning Initiative through Digital Education for Students, is an initiative in Broward County Public Schools led by the Department of Instructional Technology

Please use this wiki to explore Broward's GLIDES program!

GLIDES provides teachers with standards-based, multi-disciplinary, project-based curriculum incorporating technology into the learning process.  Emphasis is on student collaboration, technology integration, research and assessment of students through alternative methods.  Student work is showcased in a celebration day at the end of the six to eight week project to which parents and community members are invited.

The GLIDES program creates authentic learning experiences by simulating real world challenges.  Students become engaged in and take ownership of their own education as they develop content knowledge and technology skills.  GLIDES helps ensure that Broward’s students are gaining 21st century skills necessary for success in today’s global world.

Since 2005, 77 Broward schools have participated in GLIDES.  After the initial year the GLIDES process continues in the school as more staff members become involved.

Who Can Participate?

Broward County Public Schools may apply to participate. Principals will be notified when the application period is open.

GLIDES Readiness Criteria:

•    Cadre of DETA Trained teachers.

•    Teachers willing to incorporate project-based learning using technology in the process.

•    Teachers willing to work on multi-disciplinary teams.

How does GLIDES work?

A school team will plan and implement  a six to eight week project-based learning unit based on an essential question.  Students plan, research, and build real-world products that answer the essential question in creative and innovative ways.  Student work is presented to an audience of peers, parents, and the community.

During GLIDES, the school will have district support in planning and implementing the project, with technology and technology support, and with the celebration showcase.  Teachers will be provided with comprehensive professional development opportunities through out GLIDES.
